The Ontario Australian Football League's premier competition is one of the largest Australian Football Leagues outside of Australia. The Ottawa Swans are one of 10 teams to compete in the 14 game season plus finals (playoffs). The Swans select their senior side from a player pool made up mostly of Canadians. Many rookies are given the chance to play each season to ensure they get maximum exposure to the fast pace of the game in the hope they will build a long and successful playing career with the club. Several Quebec Saints Australian Football club players also compete for selection weekly as part of an agreement that sees the Saints play in the OAFL's Division 2 competition as the Swans developmental team. Over the years the Swans have established themselves as a solid source of talent in the OAFL, producing the 2008 OAFL Rookie of the year (Ryan Gregory) as well as Team Canada members (Ryan Gregory, Graeme Millen & Chris Lockhart). To play football for the Swans at this level, simply contact the coaching staff and come down for a few training sessions, you will be in a Swans jersey in no time and help the club build on an already successful start to its history! |
