History The Runner-Up Best and Fairest award is presented to the player who polls the second most votes in the Spurrell Medal ballot. The recipient of the award receives the Runner-Up Best and Fairest trophy and also has their name inscribed on the Best and Fairest Trophy as the runner-up.
How it Works Voting for the Runner-up Best and Fairest is conducted in the same ballot as the Spurrell Medal, by anonymous spectators of each game. Immediately after each home-and-away match, each nominated anonymous spectator issues their votes as follows: Three votes awarded for the player they believed to have been the best on the ground, two votes for the second best player and one vote for the third best player. Those votes are kept under lock and key and the results of them are only made public at the presentation night when the votes are counted and the Spurrell Medal and Runner-Up Best and Fairest award are presented.
