PART 3: 2009 Awards Zac Plunkett
Tuesday, 03 November 2009 08:33

Zac Plunkett-Latimer began his playing career with the Swans in 2007 as a 16 year-old, the youngest player on the club. In the Swans' OAFL debut season in 2008, Zac earned a reputation among the playing group as one of the most dedicated players on the field, the perfect definition of  "determination".

Zac's breakout season was 2009, when he won the club's Most Improved award and the Coaches' award, an impressive feat for any player at any level. Both awards are a tribute to Zac's work ethic and team-first approach to the game.

"I am honoured and surprised," he explained. "There are a lot of excellent players that deserve this award just as much as me. That's the makeup of our team: dedicated, hard working players and volunteers."

Zac Plunkett-LatimerAfter the club's winless 2008 season, being on the winning side several times in 2009 was definitely a positive change. The season's four wins were a great reward for the hard work put in by Plunkett-Latimer and the entire team.

"I think we did well for such a young OAFL club," he said. "We won four, but to me every loss is a disappointment because there is always a chance to come from behind and win in footy. The game changes so quickly."

What are his expectations for 2010?

"My main goal for 2010 is to drop some weight. It's great to throw around but it slows me down too much, so it will have to go for me to bring my game to the next level."

Plunkett-Latimer looks to his teammates as examples of the type of player he can become, with one player in particular standing out. "My greatest inspiration is Rookie [Chris Lockhart] because he is living proof of what can be achieved through a lot of hard work. Before joining the Swans, Rookie had no experience in footy, but this year he was selected for Northwind [Canada's national team]."
