After a tough beat by the Hawks the following week the Swans returned home aiming to make amends by beating the Toronto Dingos. Despite balmy conditions and a reasonable crowd turn out on the day the Swans were slow out of the blocks and never really recovered against a team that ran hard all day.
The first quarter began predictably with Razor winning nearly every ruck tap out of the middle. The midfield were able to capitalise and move the ball quickly and often into the forward line. Despite the efforts of Roffey and co the ball was rebounded too easily and quickly from half forward into the Dingo's forward line. The second quarter saw the swans re group and attempt to exert more pressure on the opposition however our inability to concentrate for a whole 20 minutes was costly. Razor continued to win ruck taps however the midfield were not able to get first use of the ball which allowed the opposition to pump the ball long into the swans defensive zone. Rookie and Pommie worked hard to clean up the forward forays but with the midfield once again chief culprits in repeat turnovers the Swans gifted the Dingo's some easy goals as they sailed away to a 5 goal lead. Razor After half time the swans changed up positions and gave new boy Nic a run in defence. For a first gamer he certainly acquitted himself well making some crucial tackles and limiting his man a some sporadic touches. BJ also moved into defence and the one handed bandit attacked the ball with zest and certainly showed glimpses of the form that we have missed over the last 6 weeks. By the last quarter the Swans were too far off the mark to make any real impact on the result however the lads kept trying to do the little things i.e. win the ball, move forward at all costs and talk / encourage. The first season in the OAFL is proving to be a tough initiation for the Swans players however you cant accept victory without experiencing the pain of losing. Special thanks to Swans Manager Tammy Bowen for her organisation skills that she provides on the day. Best players on the day: Pommy - Used his body well and hit his targets all day Razor - Please let me know next time he loses a ruck tap BJ - solid return from injury Steve - old knobbly fingers took some strong marks and rebounded well from defence |
