Still searching for their first win, the Ottawa Swans caught a glimpse of what one might look like yesterday. Pushing The Central Blues into the final quarter before falling short.
The Swans had their first in-game lead of the season before bowing 82-46 to the Central Blues on the grass oval at Rideau Carleton Raceway. Luke Walsh TThe first-year Ontario Australian Football League club beat the Blues last year in an exhibition match. It's their only taste of victory thus far. "We're getting better," said captain Steve Spurrell. "We definitely came into this one thinking push, or maybe even a win. Last week, we lost by five goals to Hamilton. This week there was a noticeable improvement." The Swans trailed 14-7 at the end of the first quarter and 26-25 at the half. It was tied 34-34 in the third quarter before the Blues pulled away. With so many players still learning the game, the Swans knew they faced an uphill climb to becoming a contender in the OAFL. It took the Hamilton Wildcats 44 games -- almost four seasons -- to pick up their first win. The Swans host the first-place Toronto Eagles next Saturday at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
